They denied me the sun for twelve years. The judge, with his sadistic, chapped smile, ordered darkness for three times that. In the void of my cell, the cold absorbed into my body, replacing my bones with something akin to fury, but tempered with hope and the notion that becoming a withered creature like the judge dreamed of would only feed into his cruelty.
